Another hype term from IT or what is behind it?
Artificial intelligence is currently a frequently overused trend topic and has led to many controversial discussions. Will the machine take over all tasks in the future and we will all be out of a job? Or are we just painting horror scenarios on the wall here? What if human and computer-controlled cognitive technologies ideally complemented each other in a positive way?
Man and machine
The term augmented intelligence offers the resolution of seemingly opposing poles. Augmented intelligence combines the artificial intelligence of machines with human intelligence. Augmented intelligence thus enhances human decision-making capabilities. The intelligence of man and machine is used synergistically to find solutions more efficiently.
Faster and better decisions
In the big data environment in particular, they expand our possibilities by analyzing large volumes of data, identifying patterns and dependencies and thus providing us with new bases for decision-making. Artificial intelligence takes over the part of collecting, processing and analyzing the data for dependencies and patterns. Both structured and unstructured data. This area can already be solved very well today with the help of machine learning, neural networks, etc. By using these technologies and combining them with human experience, intuition and intelligence, we are able to make faster and better decisions.
Modern BI cockpits, which are developed for the purpose of rapid in-depth analysis, are already in use. The increasing use of AI methods in the analysis and preparation of this data is turning business intelligence into augmented intelligence.
A common language is necessary
The next development steps in this field of research will address the topic of the interface between humans and machines. The interfaces may have become more modern, but hardly anything has changed in terms of the basic interaction. The future may bring direct brain-computer interfaces.
The success of these systems can only be achieved if humans and machines have a common language that enables all users to check the AI's decisions and, if necessary, intervene in the process at critical points. However, this must not increase the cognitive load.
A generally understandable and usable interface can serve to strengthen traceability and trust in AI.
