Artificial intelligence is currently a frequently strained trendy topic and repeatedly leads to controversial discussions. Will the machine take over all tasks in the future and we will be rid of all our jobs? Or are horror scenarios just being painted on the wall here? What if human and computational cognitive technologies ideally complement each other in a positive way?
Man and machine
The term Augmented Intelligence offers the resolution of the seemingly opposing poles. Augmented Intelligence combines the Artificial Intelligence of machines with human intelligence. Augmented intelligence thus enhances human decision-making capabilities. The intelligence of man and machine is used synergetically to find more efficient solutions.
Decide faster and better
Particularly in the Big Data environment, they expand our possibilities by analyzing large amounts of data, identifying patterns and dependencies, and thus providing us with new bases for decision-making. Artificial Intelligence takes over the part of collecting, processing and analyzing the data for dependencies and patterns. Of both structured and unstructured data. This area can already be solved very well today with the help of machine learning, neural networks, etc. By using these technologies and combining them with human experience, intuition and intelligence, we are able to make faster and better decisions.
Modern BI cockpits, which are developed for the purpose of rapid, in-depth analysis, are already in use. The increasing use of AI methods in the analysis and preparation of this data is turning business intelligence into augmented intelligence.
A common language is necessary
The next development steps in this research field will sometimes deal with the topic of the interface between humans and machines. The interfaces have become more modern, but the basic interaction has hardly changed. The future may bring direct brain-computer interfaces.
The success of these systems can only be achieved if humans and machines have a common language that enables all users to check decisions made by the AI and, if necessary, to intervene in the process at neuralgic points. However, this should not increase the cognitive load.
A universally understandable and usable interface can serve to increase comprehensibility and trust in AI.
