Since 1867 the Mergelsberg publishing house has been a constant in the district of Borken. Independent, committed, local – this is how the once pure newspaper publisher has transformed itself into a modern media company in recent years. In November 2017, the publishing house opened the new, modern building at the location at Bahnhofstraße 6 in Borken. Architecturally sophisticated and yet down-to-earth functional, the building reflects the essence of the company.
Finally, we move with the times: we develop multimedia reporting, creative and cross-media advertising concepts, portraits, advertising films, website design and much more.
As a family-run business in its fifth generation, the publishing house with its 80 or so employees has a special bond with and commitment to the region and its people.
With its products, the Borkener Zeitung, the Stadtanzeiger and the monthly magazine Mokka as well as the respective websites, the publishing house stands for careful, comprehensive and informative reporting on all channels.
The latest addition, the online agency Mergelsberg Media, rounds off the portfolio and makes the publishing house an all-rounder for the region and beyond.

Support in continuous change
Since its founding in 1867, Mergelsberg Verlag has constantly evolved to adapt to the rapid changes in the publishing industry brought about by increasing digitization. In recent years, what was originally a pure newspaper publishing house has become a successful company for multimedia reporting, which, in addition to print products, also undertakes numerous creative cross-media projects. We therefore need innovative and flexible controlling software to plan, analyse and evaluate the ever-increasing volumes of data involved.
It was important for us to have a software solution that really maps all sub-areas of controlling – whether personnel planning, investment planning, cost center planning, cash flow planning or multidimensional analyses of all our upstream systems. And all this with only one login in one interface. The decision was therefore made in favour of the Corporate Planner software solution in conjunction with the CP Dashboard (Analytics by Qlik). This is not only innovative and considerably simplifies our planning and analysis processes, but can also be operated quickly and intuitively. By using the software, all employees talk about the same values, the same number. This means that a key objective has been successfully achieved.
Decisive for us was above all a quick and uncomplicated introduction of the program as well as competent support. For this reason we decided to cooperate with W&K Controlling and TD Trusted Decisions. The two companies worked together in a spirit of partnership to provide us with a tailor-made solution and ensured a smooth implementation in our company. In a pragmatic, uncomplicated and eye-to-eye manner, the experts encouraged us to think outside the box and implemented the jointly agreed decisions in a timely manner.
By using the application software, we are able to make faster and better decisions. Detailed scenarios can now be played through and simulated. Since the information is now presented reliably and quickly, we can use it and also turn the “small adjusting screws”. We are also interested in the modern IBCS reporting options contained in the software, which we will be using in greater depth in the future. However, we do not want to neglect another important factor: Competitiveness is also ensured for the coming years.
The Corporate Planner in conjunction with the CP Dashboard (Analytics by Qlik) is continuously being expanded in our company to become the central software in the area of planning, analysis and evaluation of data.
For the good implementation and time gained, the project team is guaranteed to be crowned with a bronze statue, as Mr. Sprenger from W&K always prophesies to us 😊.
