Mergelsberg Verlag has been a fixture in the Borken district since 1867. Independent, committed, local – this is how the once pure newspaper publisher has transformed into a modern media company in recent years. In November 2017, the publisher opened the new, modern building at Bahnhofstrasse 6 in Borken. Architecturally sophisticated yet down-to-earth and functional, the building reflects the essence of the company.
Ultimately, we keep up with the times: We develop multimedia reporting, creative and cross-media advertising concepts, portraits, advertising films, website design and much more.
Run as a family business in the fifth generation, the publishing house and its around 80 employees are particularly connected and committed to the region and its people.
With its products, the Borkener Zeitung, the Stadtanzeiger and the monthly magazine Mokka as well as the respective websites, the publisher stands for careful, comprehensive and informative reporting on all channels.
The newest addition, the online agency Mergelsberg Media, rounds off the portfolio and makes the publisher an all-rounder for the region and beyond.

Mergelsberg Verlag has constantly developed since its founding in 1867 in order to adapt to the rapid change in the publishing industry due to increasing digitalization. What was originally a pure newspaper publisher has become a successful multimedia reporting company in recent years, which, in addition to print products, also takes on numerous creative cross-media projects. In order to plan, analyze and evaluate the constantly increasing amounts of data in this context, we therefore need innovative and flexible controlling software.
The highlights
Wichtig war uns eine Softwarelösung, die wirklich alle Teilbereiche des Controllings durchgängig abbildet – ob Personalplanung, Investitionsplanung, Kostenstellenplanung, Cash-Flow Planung bis hin zu multidimensionalen Analysen auf all unsere Vorsysteme. Und das Ganze mit nur einer Anmeldung in einer Oberfläche. Die Entscheidung fiel somit auf die Softwarelösung Corporate Planner in Verbindung mit dem CP-Dashboard (Analytics by Qlik). Diese ist nicht nur innovativ und vereinfacht unsere Planungs- und Analyseprozesse erheblich, sondern lässt sich außerdem schnell und intuitiv bedienen. Durch den Einsatz der Software sprechen alle Mitarbeiter von den gleichen Werten, von der gleichen Zahl. Damit ist ein wesentliches Ziel erfolgreich umgesetzt.
The implementation
What was crucial for us was a quick and uncomplicated introduction of the program as well as competent support. For this reason, we decided to work with W&K Controlling and TD Trusted Decisions. Through their partnership, the two companies made it possible to create a tailor-made solution for us and ensured a smooth implementation in our company. Pragmatic, uncomplicated and at eye level, the experts encouraged us to think outside the box and promptly implemented the decisions we made together.
Future prospects
By using the application software, we are able to make faster and better decisions. Detailed scenarios can now be played out and simulated. Since the information is now presented reliably and quickly, we can use it and also turn the “small adjustment screws”. We are also interested in the modern IBCS reporting options contained in the software, which we will use more extensively in the future. However, we do not want to neglect another important factor: competitiveness is also ensured for the next few years.
The Corporate Planner in conjunction with the CP dashboard (Analytics by Qlik) is continually being expanded into the central software in the areas of planning, analysis and evaluation of data in our company.
For the good implementation and time gained, the project team is guaranteed to be awarded a bronze statue, as Mr. Sprenger from W&K always predicts 😊.
