Mergelsberg Verlag has been a fixture in the Borken districtsince 1867. Independent, committed, local - this is how the once purely newspaper publisher has transformed itself into a modern media company in recent years. In November 2017, the publishing house opened its new, modern building at Bahnhofstrasse 6 in Borken. Architecturally sophisticated yet down-to-earth and functional, the building reflects the essence of the company.
After all, we move with the times: we develop multimedia reporting, creative and cross-media advertising concepts, portraits, advertising films, website design and much more.
As a family-run business in its fifth generation, the publishing house and its 80 employees are particularly committed to the region and its people.
With its products, the Borkener Zeitung, the Stadtanzeiger and the monthly magazine Mokka, as well as the respective websites, the publishing house stands for careful, comprehensive and informative reporting on all channels.
The latest addition, the online agency Mergelsberg Media, rounds off the portfolio and makes the publishing house an all-rounder for the region and beyond.

Since its founding in 1867, Mergelsberg Publishing has continuously evolved to adapt to the rapid changes in the publishing industry brought about by increasing digitalization. What began as a purely newspaper publisher has transformed in recent years into a successful multimedia reporting company, undertaking numerous creative cross-media projects in addition to print products. To plan, analyze, and evaluate the ever-increasing volumes of data generated in this context, we therefore require innovative and flexible controlling software.
The highlights
What was important to us was a software solution that truly and comprehensively covers all aspects of controlling – from personnel planning, investment planning, and cost center planning to cash flow planning and multidimensional analyses across all our upstream systems. And all of this with just one login in a single interface. We therefore opted for the Corporate Planner software solution in conjunction with the CP Dashboard (Analytics by Qlik). This solution is not only innovative and significantly simplifies our planning and analysis processes, but it is also quick and intuitive to use. By using the software, all employees are talking about the same values, the same figures. This means a key objective has been successfully achieved.
The implementation
Crucial for us was a quick and straightforward implementation of the program, along with expert support. For this reason, we chose to collaborate with W&K Controlling and TD Trusted Decisions. Through their partnership, the two companies developed a customized solution for us and ensured seamless implementation within our organization. Pragmatic, straightforward, and approachable, the experts encouraged us to think outside the box and promptly implemented the jointly agreed-upon decisions.
Future prospects
Using this application software allows us to make faster and better decisions. Detailed scenarios can now be explored and simulated. Since the information is now displayed reliably and quickly, we can utilize it and fine-tune even the smallest details. We also find the modern IBCS reporting capabilities included in the software interesting and will be using them more extensively in the future. But we don't want to overlook another important factor: our competitiveness is ensured for years to come.
The Corporate Planner, in conjunction with the CP Dashboard (Analytics by Qlik), is being continuously developed into the central software for planning, analyzing, and evaluating data within our company.
For the successful implementation and the time saved, the project team will surely be awarded a bronze statue, as Mr. Sprenger from W&K always predicts. 😊.
